WNY Sustainable Energy Association presents

Insights from Copenhagen: The Path Forward

A Presentation by
Kevin Neumaier
President & CEO, Ecology & Environment, Inc.

Kevin Neumaier is president and CEO of Ecology and Environment, Inc., (E & E) a multidisciplinary environmental consulting company (NASDAQ: EE I www.ene.com). E & E has completed over 45,000 environmental projects in 84 countries for a wide range of clients – developing innovative environmental solutionsin nearly every ecosystem on our planet. Among other events, Kevin was a speaker on transportation at the 2009 climate talks in Copenhagen and speaker at GreenBuild 2008 in Boston on how to design a LEED Platinum headquarters.

Kevin is a licensed professional engineer with a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Clarkson University and a master’s degree in natural science focusing on global ecology from the University of Buffalo. His 1992 master’s project involved a determination of the carbon footprint of Erie County, New York, and solutions to reduce it. He has led E & E’s endeavors in climate change ever since. A specialist in all aspects of energy conservation and environmental sustainability, Kevin encourages creative solutions to significantly reducing the demand for energy and the associated environmental impacts such as greenhouse gas emissions.

Under Kevin’s leadership, E & E’s global headquarters achieved the following distinctions:

  • 80% reduction in carbon footprint at a net cost savings…in only nine years, and
  • World’s oldest existing LEED® Platinum building.
In July/August 2009, E & E was featured as one of America’s top 100 hottest small-cap companies by Fortune Small Business. E & E is also listed among Engineering News- Record’s Top 100 Green Design Firms.

Kevin assumed leadership of E & E as president and CEO in 2008. That year, he received the "2008 Executive of the Year" award from infoTech Niagara for his work on the development of innovative, scalable web based solutions to climate change and environmental sustainability, such as GreenRide® (www.greenride.com) – an award winning transportation solution for carpooling, vanpooling, public transportation, and fleets; GreenMeter® (www.greenmeter.com)—building energy use reduction; and ProjectEarth® (www.projectearth.net)—global collaboration for environmental solutions.

He previously served as the company’s senior vice president for environmental sustainability and chief information officer. During his tenure at E & E, he has worked in 22 countries, covering all aspects of the company’s business, including project/program management, finance, business development, and information technology services.
