Seven more classic films of the '50s & '60s (some rarely seen, all by great directors) with classic jazz scores composed by and featuring jazz musicians—real and fictional—on screen, off screen, and (in most cases) both.

Starring Susan Hayward, who won that year's Academy Award for Best Actress for her portayal of death row inmate "Barbara Graham." Musical team: Johnny Mandel (composer), Gerry Mulligan (bari sax), Art Farmer (trumpet), Shelly Manne (who also did the drumming for Frank Sinatra in last week's The Man with the Golden Arm, drums), Red Mitchell (bass), Pete Jolly (piano), Bud Shank (alto sax), & Frank Rosolino (trombone). (The septet appears on screen as well as on the soundtrack.) Suggested by Jeff Simon, Buffalo Newsfilm and jazz critic.
