REEL Queer is an event series for the LGBT community and friends—hell, anyone who likes film. Launched in 2013, REEL Queer is more than just film showings—it's a community!

Now in its second season, REEL Queer has broadened its community partnerships to include Squeaky Wheel and the Pride Center of WNY, in addition to maintaining its preexisting relationship with founding partner Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center. The 2015 season promises to be filled with innovative programming and robust conversations.

Based on a true story, Pride depicts a group of lesbian and gay activists in Maggie Thatcher's UK who raised money to help families affected by the British miners' strike in 1984, at the outset of what would become the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign. The National Union of Mineworkers was reluctant to accept the group's support due to the union's public relations worries about being openly associated with a gay group, so the activists instead decided to take their donations directly to Onllwyn, a small mining village in Wales, resulting in an alliance between the two communities.

The film stars Bill Nighy (Love, Actually) and Dominic West (HBO's The Wire, Showtime's The Affair).

This licensed nontheatrical public screening is sponsored by both the Pride Center of Western New York and the WNY Area Labor Federation.
