ARCHIVAL NOTE SUPPLIED BY Dan Rigney, WHO IN MARCH 1996 WAS DIRECTOR OF PERFORMING ARTS & FACILITIES, 9/16/2015: This was actually a duo performance with Bluiett on bari sax and a series of three different distinguished drummers that changed twice from the time the concert was first publicized to when it actually took place. Chief Bey (born Yemassee, SC, April 17, 1913, died Brooklyn, NY, April 8, 2004) was supposed to have replaced Mor Thiam (born Dakar, Senegal in 1941), or vice-versa, but Bey (or Thiam) was in turn replaced in the actual performance by Ronnie Burrage (born St. Louis, MO, October 19, 1959.) Bey is listed in the printed calendar from March 1996; Burrage actually performed on March 15th.
