This "re-broadcast" of a concert from our archives is presented as part of the .9 Mile Collaborative, a major multiyear partnership between Hallwalls' Music Program and The Historic Colored Musicians Club.
On September 16, 2010, Henry Grimes played a solo concert for Hallwalls in Babeville's Asbury Hall, in an event that was co-sponsored by Just Buffalo Literary Center. Filmmaker Hank Cherry was there, shooting footage for a documentary about Henry's remarkable life entitled The Life and Death and Life of Henry Grimes. Hank Cherry has graciously allowed us to use some of the concert footage from that night to put together this short tribute in celebration of the life of Henry Grimes, who passed away last month from complications due to COVID-19.
Special thanks to Margaret Grimes for her and Henry’s time in Buffalo. Hallwalls concert cinematography by Tom McDade. This program was edited from this footage by Hallwalls
