This "re-broadcast" of a concert from our archives is presented as part of the .9 Mile Collaborative, a major multiyear partnership between Hallwalls' Music Program and The Historic Colored Musicians Club.
In 1994, Peter Brötzmann, trumpeter Toshinori Kondo, William Parker, and Hamid Drake recorded Die Like a Dog: Fragments Of Music, Life And Death Of Albert Ayler. The album was a tribute to the late composer, saxophonist, and creative music pioneer Albert Ayler. Over the following two decades the quartet reconvened (sometimes with Roy Campbell on trumpet) to tour and record, often billed as the Die Like a Dog Quartet. In 2014, the trio of Brötzmann, Parker, and Drake played a concert at the Hallwalls Cinema for a full house. The concert was supported and made possible by our friend David Kennedy.
