Starcherone Presents

An Evening of Filth & Music: Starcherone Books Benefit

The Ninth Ward, Babeville, 341 Delaware Ave.

E. R. Baxter III wants to know what's so offensive about shi-… Alissa Nutting, according to Cosmopolitan, has written the dirtiest book of summer 2013. Get cheap thrills from these authors, an interlude of klezmer music from the band Ahavaraba between readings, and more live music to finish off the night by La Gata & Moshe (legendary, Buenos Aires-born tango singer La Gata, accompanied on the bandoneon by composer Moshe Shulman), all to benefit the non-profit innovative fiction press Starcherone Books.

The Fun begins at 7 pm—Cash bar & the Whole Hog Food truck on site.

A seasoned storyteller's work via cut-up method, combining history and naturalist memoir, Niagara Digressions presents land as historical palimpsest, from ancient cave paintings to 1960s mimeographed poetry, the massacre of the buffalo to the manufacture of shredded wheat cereal, and all points in-between. Everybody thinks they know Niagara, but not this Niagara. E. R. Baxter III is a tour guide who knows the indirect path offers the best views.

"Alissa Nutting builds a dark catalog of behavior for her characters and the result is a kind of human bestiary, if humans were programmed to go down in flames, to run themselves aground, to seek ruin on every occasion. These fine stories, anthropologically thorough in their view of the contemporary person, illuminate how people hide behind their pursuits, concealing what matters most to them while striving, and usually failing, to be loved."—Ben Marcus, author of the novel Notable American Women.
