People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH) & Hallwalls present

Buffalo on the Bowery: A Benefit Art Auction in New York City

Charles Bank Gallery
196 Bowery, New York, NY

Buffalo on the Bowery is an auction of artworks by artists with strong associations to Buffalo, proceeds of which will support two essential Buffalo institutions; People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH Buffalo) and Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center. In their own way, each organization is devoted to preserving the city and encouraging and supporting communities that foster this unique creative energy.

The auction will be curated by artist and Buffalo native Julian Montague. He is an active member of the Buffalo arts community and has been showing regularly in New York City with the Black & White Gallery since 2005. Montague's selections will feature artworks by significant emerging and established artists.

The auction host committee is comprised of prominent Buffalo natives from the arts, business, and media industries. A sampling of this list includes world-renowned playwright and novelist A.R. Gurney, Wall Street Journal deputy editor Robert Pollock, and author Jake Halpern.

About People United for Sustainable Housing

PUSH works to create a healthy, just and strong Buffalo that includes sustainable neighborhoods and pathways to employment in the green jobs sector. PUSH's Green Development Zone on the city's West Side has gained national attention by integrating green and affordable housing development, community-based renewable energy projects, urban agriculture, green jobs training and community organizing to advance green policy initiatives. The Green Development Zone was recently chosen from among 400 global applicants as one of the three most important urban sustainability projects in the world. For more on this competition visit changemakers.com. PUSH's impact has been felt at the regional, state and national level. In 2010, New York State created a new Sustainable Neighborhoods Program, which is designed to be a replicate of PUSH's Green Development Zone in cities across the state.
