The downtown workshop at Hallwalls, entitled "Engineering Ephemera," will be followed by two on-campus workshops entitled "Climate Adaptation: Coastal Resilience Design" and "Simply Supported." In addition, Nordenson will give a public lecture entitled "Reading Structures" on Monday, April 28th, at 6:00 p.m. in 301 Crosby Hall on UB's South Campus.

Guy Nordenson is a structural engineer and professor at Princeton University. He practiced structural engineering in San Francisco and NYC, and in 1987 established the NYC office of Arup, which he directed until 1997 when he began his independent practice. Current projects include the expansion of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth and the National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, DC. He is a Commissioner of the NYC Public Design Commission and a member of both the NYC Panel on Climate Change and the board of the Jamaica Bay Rockaways Park Conservancy. His research project "On the Water | Palisade Bay" won the 2007 AIA Latrobe Prize, was published in 2010, and served as the inspiration for the MoMA workshop and exhibition "Rising Currents." His research team at Princeton is leading a Rockefeller Foundation funded project including teams from Harvard, City College, and the University of Pennsylvania to develop "Structures of Coastal Resilience" in collaboration with the US Army Corps of Engineers.

The Clarkson Visiting Chair in Architecture recognizes excellence in scholarship and professional practice and is made possible by the generous support of Will & Nan Clarkson.
