RELOCATION

Hallwalls moves from their old location at 30 Essex St. to 700 Main Street in the downtown Theatre District. Construction of the two galleries CEPA/Hallwalls is completed with the help of 80 volunteer members. 160 sheets of drywall, 550 2x4x10" studs, and 75 gallons of paint were needed

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings


Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
