REVIEWING HISTORIES: SELECTIONS FROM NEW LATIN AMERICAN CINEMA

Presented at:
Hallwalls

THE HOUR OF THE FURNACES (1968, Argentina, 260 min); shown in three parts. Directed by Fernando Solanas and Octavio Getino. [REVIEWING HISTORIES: SELECTIONS FROM NEW LATIN AMERICAN CINEMA, organized by Steve Gallagher and guest-curated by Coco Fusco, with accompanying book of essays. Unexpectedly, the 224-page book fills a void in the field of Latin American film studies and Latin American studies departments across the US. Consequently, it soon sells out its first (and only) printing. Nine years later requests for the book are still coming in. — E.C.]
