Hallwalls will become a resource center featuring documentation tapes of past woman performers and other artists' tapes from its library, along with a collection of self-produced zines from around the country (including Bikini Kill, Girljock, and Sister!), along with recent coverage of the riot grrl phenomenon and issues of Sassy in a stimulation of a teen girl's bedroom. Curated by Ron Ehmke and on view in the Video Viewing Room.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings


Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
