Jonathan Culp, in conjunction with Go Guerilla! presents work as a fundraiser for the Toronto Video Activist Collective(TVAA.) Screening features: 38 SHORT FILMS ABOUT THE OAS (which documents demonstrations against the Organization of American Status); FIGHTING TO WIN (which documents social policies surrounding the deaths of 22 homeless people in Toronto in the winter of 2000). Music featured by Joshua Constant (found instruments) Food Not Bombs provided free food.
The Toronto Video Activist Collective (TVAC) formed iin 1998 to train activists in the use of video equipment; screen and distribute videotapes on activist themes and provide video witness support for local protests and direct action in a time of escalating police violence.
This screening, presented in conjunction with Go Guerrilla!, is a fundraiser to help TVAC mobilize for the Summit of the Americas conference to be held in Quebec City in April. There is speculation that Canada will reinstate their War Measures Act for this conference, making the TVAC’s reporting particularly urgent. The films to be screened include: 38 Short Films About the OAS, which documents demonstrations in Windsor countering a meeting of the Organization of American States, and Fighting To Win, which highlights the fight against regressive social policies which led to 22 homeless deaths on the streets of Toronto in the winter of 2000. Angry and defiant, 1000 people marched to the Ontario parliament on June 15, 2000 - demanding to address the legislature on the poverty crisis.
