Chilean-born poet, visual artist, and performance artist Cecilia Vicuña, whose installation entitled Cloud-Net was constructed and exhibited in our main gallery in fall of 1998, returns to Buffalo under the auspices of UB’s "Wednesdays at 4 Plus" series. Here at Hallwalls, Vicuña will present recent video and film projects (and one older one) which she produced during her Hallwalls residency two years ago, with technical assistance from Hallwalls Technical Director Chris Borkowski. Cloud-Net was produced by Cecilia and Chris at Hallwalls. They completed post-production of Qué es para usted la poesía at Downtown Community Television (DCTV) in NYC. Maria Santiago (a pseudonym used by Vicuña) is a BBC production from the politically turbulent ‘70s.
Vicuña will also lecture in 540 Clemens Hall on the UB North Campus on Monday, March 19, at 12 NOON, and will read from her poetry in the UB Center for the Arts Screening Room on Wednesday, March 21, at (you guessed it!) 4:00 P.M. Vicuña’s 1999 book Cloud-Net, co-published by Art in General, DiverseWorks, and Hallwalls, will be available for sale and signing. Cloud-Net residencies and gallery installations in NYC, Houston, and Buffalo, the video productions, and the book were all made possible with major grants from the Lannan Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts
