FILM AND VIDEO FROM GERMANY

An in-person presentation of Film and Video from Germany by Gert Weidenfeld of Die Fahre Filminititative, who will present a collection of film and video primarily from Münster, Cologne, and Dusseldorf, as well as forbidden films made from 1970-1990 in the former East Germany. Weidenfeld has toured extensively with this collection, including sites in the former Soviet-Union (Georgia and Aserbaidschan) and the recent Ann Arbor Film Festival. He will be in Buffalo for several days to get acquainted with our internationally recognized media community.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings


Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
