François Truffaut's 1966 classic adaptation of Bradbury's novel features Oskar Werner as the film's protagonist Montag, a fireman whose job it is to incinerate all books and the belongings of those who own them. Julie Christie appears in the double role of his passive wife and Clarisse, a reader who shows Montag the power and necessity of books and the world of ideas they hold.
Just Buffalo has selected Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury as the center of its Big Read celebration which is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information visit www.justbuffalo.org.
