Legendary filmmaker Barbara Hammer presents LOVER OTHER (2006, 55min, digital video), her latest documentary about art and resistance. Employing experimental tactics such as collage, Hammer explores the lives of surrealist artist Claude Cahun (1894-1954) and her partner and lover, half-sister Marcel Moore.

Also shown: DYKETACTICS (1974, two versions, shown on 16mm with two alternative soundtracks).

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings

Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
