Reynold Reynolds

Berlin-based, award winning media artist Reynold Reynolds will visit Buffalo this October as part of UB's Visual Studies Speaker Series (October 12). On Tuesday, October 13, Reynolds will present and discuss his most recent 16mm films, including Burn (2002, 10min, transferred from 16mm) which was directed with Patrick Jolley, Secret Life (2008, 5min, two channel video projection transferred from 16mm and stills), Secret Machine (2009, 7min, two channel video projection transferred from 16mm and stills), and Six Apartments (2007, 12min, double video projection from 16mm). Co-sponsored by the University at Buffalo Department of Visual Studies.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings


Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
