Chile, Pbstinate Memory In conjunction with this summer's Latin Lens Film Series, Hallwalls is pleased to co-present Chile, Obstinate Memory (Patricio Guzmán,1998, 58min) which follows the documentary maker's return home to screen his 3-part epic, Battle of Chile after "a quarter century of censorship and self-censorship, buried memories and controlled grief." Paintings and Drawings

Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
