Hallwalls
Experimental filmmaker Lawrence Brose, highly regarded and widely recognized for his poetic meditations on queerness, masculinity, history, and sexuality, is best known for his 1997 film De Profundis. Until the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of NY commenced its prosecution of the artist, who is presently under indictment in federal court and denies all the charges made against him, the work has never been called 'obscene'. An investigation of Oscar Wilde's project of Transgressive Aesthetics, the provocative film has received worldwide critical acclaim for its technique and content. Brose will present his film, which Hallwalls will proudly present now for the fifth time. Followed by a reception for the artist, at which a newly created print from the film will be made available.
