Presented at:
Hallwalls
Rufus Cappadocia (five-string electric cello).
"Rufus Cappadocia will be making his third appearance at Hallwalls, having performed with both The Paradox Trio and Quttah. With each show he has left audiences stunned with his unique style and passionate energy. He plays a self-designed five-string electro-acoustic cello that combines an extended technique of the bass and cello, allowing it to function as both a lead and rhythm section instrument. He has honed his distinct musical voice into a form of playing that combines near-eastern music with groove, blues and jazz sensibilities. Rufus has built a solid reputation as one of the most innovative and versatile cellists working today, performing at well-known venues in New York City such as Town Hall, SOB's and the Knitting Factory. He has also been featured at major jazz and world music festivals throughout Europe and North America. In addition to performing frequently around New York with his own group, Rufus performs regularly with the Paradox Trio, Tamalalou (Guinean Griot music), the Greek group Labyrinth, headed by Ross Daly and Kif, led by David 'Fuze' Fiuczynski. He has also performed with, amoung many others: Pheeroan akLaff, Tim Berne, Hamiet Bluiett, Joseph Bowie, Charles Burnham, Don Byron, Regina Carter, Thomas Chapin, Alan Chase, Keba Bobo Cissoko, Abdoulaye Diabate, Dave Douglas, Mark Feldman, Aretha Franklin, David Gilmore, Billy Hart, Graham Haynes, Sekou Sundiata, Frank London, Butch Morris, Elliott Sharp, Brad Shepik, James "Blood" Ulmer, and Reggie Workman. This is an unusual opportunity to hear Rufus play in an intimate and daring solo performance."
