Mark Dresser is an internationally acclaimed bass player, improviser, composer, and interdisciplinary collaborator. He has recorded over one hundred thirty CDs. Since 2007 he has been deeply involved in telematic music performance. His current collaborations include Trio M with Myra Melford and Matt Wilson, the trio Mauger, with Rudresh Mahanthappa and Gerry Hemingway, the trio Jones Jones and duo with Jen Shyu. For eighteen years he lived and worked in New York City. He has recorded and performed with some of the strongest personalities in contemporary music including Anthony Braxton, Ray Anderson, Jane Ira Bloom, Tim Berne, Anthony Davis, Dave Douglas, Osvaldo Golijov, Gerry Hemingway, Bob Ostertag, Joe Lovano, Henry Threadgill, Dawn Upshaw and John Zorn. In 2001 he was nominated for a Grammy. He is currently Professor of Music at University of California, San Diego. He is on the board of directors of the International Society of Bassists and the advisory board of International Society of Improvised Music.

Vocalist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/dancer Jen Shyu has performed and recorded as a soloist, bandleader, and sidewoman throughout the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Known mostly for her virtuosic singing with saxophonist Steve Coleman & Five Elements since 2003 and performing her own music in the avant-garde and creative music worlds in such venues as Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Blue Note, Merkin Hall, and Amsterdam's Bimhuis, Shyu has collaborated with innovators Anthony Braxton, Mark Dresser, Bobby Previte, Dave Burrell, Mat Maneri, Chris Potter, Michael Formanek, and David Binney to name a few. Since graduating from Stanford University, she has been awarded residencies to MacDowell Colony and Yaddo Residency as well as fellowships to travel and do research in Cuba, Brazil, Taiwan, China, East Timor, and Indonesia from the Fulbright Scholar Program, Asian Cultural Council, Jerome Foundation, and Bronx Council on the Arts. She is currently based in the Bronx, NY, and has produced two albums as a leader, For Now and Jade Tongue.,

New Works

Peña's work operates across various media (including the ongoing "one cartoon each day" autobiography called Daily Geology) and across various emotional strata. In certain works, Peña illustrates a desire to engage and sometimes emulate the natural world, while in other works, he teases out the awkward reality and unavoidable pathos of the human condition.
