A playful counter-intuitiveness threads into the title to pianist Paul Giallorenzo's Delmark debut. In legal circles, force majeure commonly refers to an unforeseen and catastrophic accident or event that absolves individuals of contractual obligations in its aftermath. Force Majeure seems instead almost a foregone conclusion given the merits of Giallorenzo's preceding release by his GitGo ensemble on the Leo label in 2012 and the estimable roster of players at his disposal. Taking to the road for part of the following year, the five participants gelled into an even stronger working unit. No unexpected disasters or obstacles derailed their designs, and a subsequent trip to the studio yielded this new program of originals from the pianist …
