Alexandra Fuller has written four books of non-fiction, many magazine and newspaper articles, and numerous book reviews. Her work has been named a New York Times Notable Book (Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood in 2002) and a Toronto Globe & Mail Best Non-Fiction Book (The Legend of Colton H Bryant in 2008), and she won the Ulysses Prize for Art of Reportage for 2004′s Scribbling the Cat: Travels with an African Soldier. Fuller's latest book, Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness, is the BABEL selection in anticipation of her appearance in the series. See the Just Buffalo page for ticket information.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings

Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
