NEW MUSIC NETWORK (September 19 - October 15, 1988) Hallwalls, Inc. Buffalo, NY 1988. [An 18-page B&W publication produced in conjunction with the New York State New Music Network tour, coordinated by Hallwalls music curator Don Metz, and which traveled to venues throughout the state. In addition to images of the participating performers and ensembles (including Double Edge, Philip Glass, Kronos Quartet, Max Roach, Henry Threadgill and Women of the Calabash) the publication includes biographical information as well as information about the works performed on the program.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings


Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
