WAYS IN BEING GAY
Presented at: Hallwalls
AMENDMENTS: Exhibition curated by Sara Kellner focusing on artists navigating personal identity through politicized issues such as sexuality, AIDS, and civil rights. Artists include Gaye Chan (an altered US NAVY flag); Elliot Linwood (multimedia installations using bees and hair); E.A. Racette; Jo Ann Brenner (ceramics); Don Bell (drawings); DYKE ACTION MACHINE! (aka Carrie Moyer and Sue Schaffner, art and posters); Robert Windrum (embroidery); Louise Deidrich (3-D drawings of Linda Blair); Kenneth Sean Golden (A QUEER KIND OF HOUSE, paper construction); HUMANE SOCIETY (Ricardo Zuleta, photographic documentation of performance); Eli Langer (drawings); and Joy Episalla (photocopies). [NOTE: "Eli Langer, a talented and serious young Canadian artist whose drawings were to have appeared in the AMENDMENTS show, decides on advice of counsel to withdraw the work, fearing it might hurt his case now pending in the Canadian courts. His attempt to sue for return of his paintings confiscated from a Toronto gallery — seized on charges of child pornography — is a nationally celebrated test case of Canada's harsh new censorship laws. — E.C.]
