Cuban artist Manuel Pina in residence at Hallwalls as part of the project 1990's ART FROM CUBA: A NATIONAL RESIDENCY AND EXHIBITION PROGRAM. Pina was one of five artists from Cuba to visit the United States, where he worked with Hallwalls digital facilities as well as the photography facilities at the University at Buffalo. Hallwalls, CEPA Gallery and El Museo collaborated on three presentations Pina's work; CEPA presents Pina in a Buffalo Public Transit Exhibition and El Museo presents a gallery exhibition of Selected Early Works by Pina, dates and times for both to be announced.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings

Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
