Hallwalls and the Arts Studios of Western New York

Dina Nur (b. 1963 in Khartoum Sudan) and Wilhelm Kronfeld (b. 1926 in Dortmund Germany) present paintings and sculptures at Hallwalls and the Arts Studios of Western New York as part of celebrating 20 years of the Buffalo-Dortmund sister city partnership. A presentation of works by Buffalo artists is scheduled for June 1998 in Dortmund.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings


Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
