CEC ArtsLink

Presented at:

Slide presentation and video screening by CEC ArtsLink artist-in-residence, Vlasta Delimar, a well known Croatian artist. Delimar was at the center of a new artistic movement  that occurred in Croatia in the late 70s and early 80s. She is an internationally exhibited feminist artist who often uses her own body in her photo installations to explore sexuality, narcissism, and social constructions of gender identity. During her month long residency at Hallwalls, she has used our facilities to create a new performance titled MATURE WOMAN. With local artists, she has created a 10 min video backdrop for a new live performance that examines rituals of the body. She has also explored Cindy Sherman's work in reenactments, restaging the Untitled Film Stills around Buffalo.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings

Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
