ABOUT THIS YEAR'S THEME
This year's theme is a gentle prod toward the self-obsession lurking within all of you. Not that there's anything wrong with that. We concede the notion that a healthy, vibrant, ambitious ego is a key ingredient to propelling one's art star forward. It helps you make work, it helps you believe in your work. Even if your work is ostensibly not autobiographical, fess up, it's really all about you after all, isn't it? It's your version of the world thrust back at the world. Aren't we all part of a chorus, each of us chirping "Me me me" in our own inimitable way? Or, as Tristan Tzara once put it so beautifully, "after all, everyone dances to his own personal boomboom..."
