Director, Indigo Gallery

Elisabeth Samuels is a painter, curator, and educator, currently Director of Indigo Gallery. Born in Chicago, she received a AB from Indiana University, studied at The Art Institute of Chicago, and the UNC program Figline Valdarno, Italy. She received a MFA in Painting and an MA in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin Madison.

Elisabeth moved to Buffalo in the mid 80s, and has since been involved in a variety of efforts to connect artists, community, and collectors.

Laylah Ali
Paintings and Drawings

Laylah Ali's work explores power dynamics and interpersonal conflict through compositions that position culturally, racially and sexually ambiguous figures in precarious, loaded, and unexpectedly humorous situations. Ali uses concise—even minimal—imagery that is specific in rendering and intent. While there are narratives in Ali's work, they are stories whose open spaces often give them the atmosphere of fables.
