Tim Roby & Shelby Baron

Opening Reception and Artist's Talks

The work of Tim Roby draws upon the most quotidian and familiar of objects found in our everyday environment, those so familiar to us that they often go entirely unnoticed. These common materials, often unfinished, are extracted, refashioned and resituated as blunt, poetic emblems in new, unexpected scenarios.

Using ink as a primary medium and stream of consciousness as a primary style, Shelby Baron combines a wild array of drawing strategies to accomplish her—from thick, weighty lines to faint, broken ones; from recognizable forms to a modular aggregate of images piled atop each other to a degree that they disrupt recognition; from drawings that describe characters to those that appear to depict mysterious machines or rampant organic growth.

Artist's talks begin at 8:00 p.m. in the Hallwalls Cinema.
